I grew up (well kind of) playing Gibson Electric Guitars. I had a 335, a Les Paul, ES 175. Personally I preferred them over Fenders because I played a lot of chords, and they felt right for me, however I loved the sound of Fenders. After almost 40 years of guitar playing I find myself mainly playing acoustic guitar. As an acoustic player, the need for responsive guitars is apparent because it’s not possible to hide behind the gadgetry that can make a beginner on an electric sound like a superstar and have people singing your praises because you look cool and sound great because the technology is so good that it doesn’t matter that you can’t play. Disclaimer: I am not knocking electric guitar, simply just pointing out and highlighting a bizarre aspect of the human ego.

A lot of eyebrows have been raised recently because Taylor, the maker of some of the worlds finest and to die for acoustic guitars have ventured into the electric guitar market.

Why it is of great interest to experienced guitar players like me is because often as playrs we can’t always get away with playing an acoustic guitar. Although much of the sound of a guitar player is built into the fingers and the soul of the player, the right tool is often necessary. So Taylor have done it, they’ve taken the beauty craftmanship and state of the art technology that is used in their Acoustic Guitars and now have headed off it a new era of electric guitars. The 1990′s was the beginning of the Golden ge of Acoustic Guitars with breakthroughs in design and development in guitar workshops across the planet. Maybe this is the New Age of Electric Guitars

This Gibson Acoustic Guitar Youtube Video is definitely worth a view, yes they are advertising but regardless of this the snippets of guitars in various stages of development are of great interest, especially to guitar players that don’t really know much about the guitar making process. As we all know Gibson is famous but there are so many guitar makers that make beautiful guitars, such as Ellis Guitars , McGowan Guitars and Froggy Bottom Guitars. As a long term guitar player, I recognise the beauty of the Gibson Guitar and I also see the need for the smaller custom workshop that has the ability to create specialist instruments and push the art form of guitar forward.
