Tommy Emmanuel Acoustic Guitar Blues Youtube

Here’s a very very good Acoustic Blues Improvisation by Tommy Emmanuel. It’s only about two minutes long but he plays a lot in that two minutes, it has certain elements of jazz and boogie in it. Back in the early eighties I used to watch Tommy and his brother Phil do acoustic bluegrass duets in the breaks between sets. It was really refreshing after hearing the bands play funk and variations of jazz rock. All styles are valid, but I always enjoyed the two acoustic guitars playing bluegrass standards, which mind you, I think is probably one of the best ways to get your playing up to speed whilst still sounding musical, instead of sounding like a great scale technician.

Acoustic Guitar Blues Scales

I wrote a very simple and helpful guitar TAB and Music Notation of Essential Blues Scales for Acoustic Guitar some time ago. Obviously they are suitable for electric guitar. As there are many new visitors all the time to my acoustic guitar sites, I thought it would be a good idea to post a quick article about them. In many of them I have included a number of open string because I like the sound of open strings on an acoustic, and also it creates a little breathing space. Yes there are other ones than these but hese are nice ones to get players started or for those that wish to brush up on their scales.

Kelly Joe Phelps Youtube Slide Guitar

Here’s, more of the very brilliant soulful country blues acoustic guitar player playing slide. This guy is the flavour of the month for me when it comes to acoustic guitar with a slight country blues edge to it. As stated in another article I recently purchased his CD called Tunesmith Retrofit. And while I’m at it I thought I ‘d just like to point out the need for people to purchase music instead of downloading their music via file sharing programs.

If you don’t know about the great blues rock player Joe Bonamassa, it’s probably time you became aware of him. At a very young age he was taught by Danny Gatton. He’s only in his early thirties.

In this youtube video you’ll hear him finish off a ballad… and then he goes for it. He has an extraordinary right hand rhythm technique. Throughout the tune he moves through quite a number of styles, seems like he’s done a little practice

In a way apart from being a blues guitarist, singer and harp player he’s also a walking history of the blues. He’s a complete band by himself.

Eric Clapton Youtube Blues – Outside Woman Blues

My introduction to the Cream featuring Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker was in 1969, I was 13 years old and just discovering music. By 1970 I had inherited four albums, Jimi Hendrix – Are You Experienced, John Wesley Harding by Dylan, Hurdy Gurdy Man by Donovan and Disraeli Gears by the Cream. To this day I’m still spooked by the Tales of Brave Ulysses of the Gears album, but another song that really caught my ears back then was Outside Woman Blues. So to get hold of a version by Clapton doing the tune on acoustic, really brings the tune into context and shows the underlying thinking behind the song. This is a tremendous song to add to an acoustic blues repertoire and it’s reasonably simple …if you can already play.
