Tommy Emmanuel Acoustic Guitar Blues Youtube

2009 November 16

Here’s a very very good Acoustic Blues Improvisation by Tommy Emmanuel.  It’s only about two minutes long but he plays a lot in that two minutes, it has certain elements of jazz and boogie in it.  Back in the early eighties I used to watch Tommy and his brother Phil do acoustic bluegrass duets in the breaks between sets.  It was really refreshing after hearing the bands play funk and variations of jazz rock.   All styles are valid, but I always enjoyed the two acoustic guitars playing bluegrass standards, which mind you, I think is probably one of the best ways to get your playing up to speed whilst still sounding musical, instead of sounding like a great scale technician.

Tommy has a new album out with gypsy jazz master Frank Vignola called ‘Just Between Frets’. Until the first of the year, it’s only available through Tommy’s merch site at http://www.certifiedguitarplayer.com

Very nice…it was as if he was trying to get all aspects of playing, a montouge if you will, of the Blues. What was the Guitar?

Mr Emmanuel has something truly unique doesn’t he, it’s as if he’s almost not even trying. Brilliant stuff.
