		<description>People like the one in the scenario you describe do that because they are full of pride, IMHO.  All they care about is trying to impress other people rather than trying to make good music WITH other people.  I agree that listening is an essential skill for good guitarists.   Not just in the interest of being courteous towards other players, but also because it will make you more of a musician - someone that is dedicated to making beautiful sounds.  In the piano world it&#039;s called &quot;to audiate&quot;.  A musician needs to actually listen to what they&#039;re playing, not just bang out notes like a robot.</description>
